"The Lord your God is with you,
He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing."
Zephaniah 3:17
I have been going through a devotional called "A Beautiful Mess" that is based on themes in the movie Mom's Night Out . (I highly recommend both the movie and the devotional!) One of the verses in a recent lesson is the one above from Zephaniah. I know and love this verse! It is highlighted in my Bible. I love the thought of God quieting me with His love and singing over me! Even typing it again now, I am filled with peace and joy.
But then my quiet time ends and real life begins with its busy-ness and loud-ness and real-ness. And sometimes I forget about this verse.
So I was hit hard with the question in the devotional that came after this verse - "If every mom could walk in the confidence that God delights in them, how do you think it would affect our world?"
I had many first thoughts: There would be no more comparison games, one mom to another mom or her kids to other kids. There would be no more basing self worth on how her kids behave. Worries and anxiety would go right to God. Moms would be more confident and happier. They would plug into the superpower that is the Holy Spirit inside every believer. I don't struggle with everything on this list, but I struggle.
But as Moms, if we didn't compare ourselves to other Moms or our kids to other kids and based our self worth on the fact that we are children of God who loved us so much He sent His one and only Son to die in our place and if we took our worries immediately to the Lord and really listened to that superpower inside us, wouldn't we be more confident and happier? Now our circumstances wouldn't change. I'd still be waiting for Danny to come home. My boys would still have the occasional sassy answer. I'd still have to wait until my husband is looking at me to say something and have him hear me (too many loud concerts in his youth he claims damaged his hearing.) But I would have my eyes and heart focused in the right place.
So Mom - WALK. In confidence. God DELIGHTS in YOU!
He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing."
